This condenser is used for dark field microscopy techniques. Its main application is the study of transparent and untreated samples with low light absorption index, which cannot be observed using bright field techniques. It can only be used with dry objectives (without oil immersion) and with apertures up to 0.9 and magnification between 4x and 60x.

The 0.9 MAGUS DF1 A condenser for dark field must be inserted in the microscope frame in place of the Abbe condenser used for bright-field microscopy. The optimal contrast for the observed image is obtained using a cover glass with a thickness of 0.17 mm and a glass slide with a thickness of 1–1.2 mm.
