The MAGUS Lum V500L is an inverted microscope for fluorescence microscopy in reflected light and brightfield and phase contrast microscopy in transmitted light. For fluorescence microscopy, filters for DAPI, FITC and TRITC fluorochromes are used. The inverted design allows you to analyze samples contained in laboratory glassware, such as Petri dishes, test tubes, etc. The height of the glassware can reach 55 mm or 165 mm when the stand is tilted. The optics are designed for laboratory glassware with a 1.2 mm thick bottom. This microscope is ideal for research and routine work in the laboratory and can be used for educational purposes.

Digital camera

The digital camera MAGUS CLM90 is designed for the dark field and fluorescence microscopy technique.
The camera is equipped with a 7.1 MP sensor and produces realistic images at a resolution of 3200x2200 px. It is recommended to use the camera with 4x, 10x, 20x and 40x lenses. When using low magnification lenses, the camera allows the user to see sharper details.
Videos are recorded at 51.3 fps or 133.8 fps depending on the resolution. Videos flow smoothly with smooth, subtle transitions between frames. The movement of the sample is shown in real time, without delays. The camera facilitates the observation of moving objects and is suitable for academic demonstrations.
The camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 interface. The data transfer speed is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 cameras. The high-speed camera is recommended for professional laboratories, research or university education.

Optics

Two options for installing a digital camera and a Monitor: The trinocular tube is designed to accommodate a monitor (not included), while the side port on the microscope frame is designed for a digital camera (not included). On both optical paths there is a beam splitter: 100/0 and 0/100 (microscope frame), 80/20 (trinocular head). The 45° inclination of the eyepiece tube allows you to make observations in complete comfort. When assembling the microscope, the user can rotate the optical tubes 180°.

The package includes six planachromatic objectives: three for use in bright field and fluorescence microscopy, the others three for phase contrast microscopy. The lenses are infinitely corrected and have a long working distance. The nosepiece revolver has six slots for housing as many objectives. The nosepiece is placed on a support underneath the stage.

Illumination

The fluorescence excitation source is a 5 W LED with a life of 50,000 hours, without the need for replacement during the useful life of the instrument. The instrument is equipped with three excitation filters: filters for DAPI, FITC and TRITC fluorochromes. LED lighting is more energy efficient and easier to maintain than a mercury vapor lamp, making it advisable for use in university-level education. LED lighting is consistent in terms of color temperature. The LED turns on and off quickly and does not overheat during prolonged use.

The light source for transmitted light observations is always a 5 W LED. Its light intensity is sufficient for each of the objectives used for bright field or phase contrast microscopy techniques.

Both light sources, both reflected and transmitted light, can be adjusted according to the Köhler method. This allows you to reach the maximum resolution limit for each objective lens and obtain a clear, sharp image without artefacts or edge darkening.

The microscope is equipped with a phase contrast condenser: three slots are used for phase contrast objectives with 10x, 20x and 40x magnification, while the fourth slot is for bright field microscopy. Phase contrast rings can be centered. You can switch from one microscopy technique to another just by turning a knob.

Stage and focusing mechanism

The fixed stage is equipped with a translator insert for moving laboratory glassware and is equipped with three supports for plates of various sizes. Laboratory glassware can be moved on the horizontal plane, along two axes perpendicular to each other. The microscope features a mechanism for coarse and fine focusing. The coarse focus mechanism is equipped with a fixing knob and the tension of the coarse screw can be adjusted. The knobs have an ergonomic design that allows the user to maintain a relaxed posture while working.

Accessories

The microscope can be equipped with additional eyepieces , calibration slides or a digital camera from the MAGUS line of accessories.

Key features of the microscope:

  • Inverted design for observing samples contained in laboratory glassware with a bottom thickness of 1.2 mm and a height of up to 55 mm, or 165 mm with an inclined support
  • Microscopy techniques: fluorescence (reflected light), bright field and contrast phase (transmitted light)
  • Köhler illumination configurable for transmitted and reflected light; light source with long-life 5 W LED, without the need to replace bulbs
  • The instrument is equipped with three excitation filters: filters for DAPI, FITC and TRITC fluorochromes
  • Phase contrast condenser, allows for quick and practical switching between the various microscopy techniques
  • Trinocular head; two options for installing a camera or monitor: beam splitter with ratio 100/0 and 0/100 (microscope frame), 80/20 (trinocular head)

Key camera features:

  • For darkfield and fluorescence microscopy with 4x, 10x, 20x or 40x objectives
  • 7.1 MP resolution: when making observations with low magnification lenses, the camera will allow the user to see sharper details
  • 51.3 fps and 133.8 fps, respectively at 3200x2200 pixels and 1584x1100 pixel resolution, for l observation of objects with moving elements, for video recording and for moving the specimen without jerks or delays
  • The Peltier cell lowers the temperature of the sensor during prolonged operation and eliminates thermal noise, allowing so you can use a long shutter speed when taking photographs
  • Global shutter for fast signal reading by the sensor, greater image brightness without optical effects when observing moving objects
  • The monochrome back-illuminated SONY Exmor CMOS sensor offers images with low noise and high light sensitivity even in low light conditions. You can get sharper, brighter and more saturated color images
  • USB 3.0 interface for fast and smooth data transfer
  • Software for recording and editing photos and videos, display functions external, linear and angular measurements
